SBW doesn't backorder bars, but orders with two or more pages of bars, can sometimes slow down the process on large odd-size orders. However, we usually process orders like that in 3-5 days, so let us know if this might be an issue, and we'll try to speed it up. Please, give us a call, not an email or text, to 805-528-3322 or Jim at 805-440-3430.

Standard Stretcher Bars 3/4" Depth to the Wall and 1 7/8" Wide. These are called STF and can be purchased in bundles of 50 bars. Braces are also recommended at 32 inches and up..
The most widely used stretcher bar, these bars have a raised rounded-over edge that helps reduce friction and creates a much more even, tighter fit. In addition to evenly distributing the tension much more then sharp edges, the rounded edges give a “fudge factor: for gallery wraps and lift the canvas away from the wood. Braces are recommended for larger prints, where stretching might create inward bowing of the wood. These bars are known in the industry as 3/4”, however, they are actually 11/16” by 1 7/8". These bars work well with most frames and provide a more economical choice then heavier duty bars.
A Popular Medium Duty Stretcher Bar that We Call "Goldilocks" is 1 1/4" X 1 1/4" or HSF, and can be purchased in bundles of 40 bars. Braces are also recommended at 34 inches and up.
These bars are very close to the 1 1/2" depth of heavy duty stretcher bars, while costing a fraction of the price. They have quite a bit structural stability but braces are recommended with larger canvases or where significant amounts of stress will be placed in stretching. They are perfect for when a substantial side profile is wanted but the deeper stretcher bars are too expensive to be practical. The “Goldilocks” stretcher bars are the perfect compromise between the thinner Standard bars and the thicker HZF and HDF heavy duty bars. Visually very close to the 1 1/2” profile of a heavy duty bar, they help give your paintings or canvas prints a notable presence. While the bars are sturdy, they are not as strong as heavy duty bars and will require cross braces sooner. They're a much more economical choice when the primary goal is the side profile. These bars are described as 1 1/4"square, however, they are actually 1 1/8” by 1 1/8".
Another Popular Stretcher Bar that We Call the "Midi" is 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" or HZF, and can be purchased in bundles of 30 bars. Braces are also recommended at 43 inches and up.
These bars are much more affordable than the super heavy duty bars, while providing the 1 1/2” depth. As with all other bars we sell, the wrapping edges are eased, providing less resistance and more even stress distribution. Their 3/4” rise makes it impossible for stretched canvas to come into contact with the inside breadth of the stretcher frame. Although the bars are very strong, we recommend using braces when sizes exceed 43”. Environmental factors can sometime cause the wood to bend inwards over the years and using braces can help mitigate this potential issue. The HZF bar's structural integrity and depth to the wall make it an ideal choice for gallery wraps unless you need the HDF super heavy duty bars. The actual size of the Midi's is 1 3/8" depth to the wall and 1 5/16" wide.
While The Heavy Duty Stretcher Bar (HDF) May Not Be As popular as the Midi HZF bar, They are the "Go To" choice for larger frames. The HDF's are 1 1/2" X 2" and can be purchased in bundles of 20 bars. Braces are also recommended at 50 inches and up.
he Heavy Duty bars offer are absolute brutes. When you need a larger frame that can withstand the compression of stretching, this should be your go to bar. Like the Midis, it has the same pronounced round-over of the bar's face edge. Raised, rounded edges (as opposed to sharp, flat edges), greatly reduce the friction of stretching, allowing for a tighter, more even canvas face, while reducing the stress placed on the canvas and the person doing the stretching. The 3/4" raised edge has two other benefits, by lifting the canvas away from contact with the wood, and allowing a slight "fudge factor" for gallery wraps that have a sharp transition between the face image and its side. The actual depth to the wall is 1 3/8" and the width is 1 7/8 inches.
