SBWs Medium Duty "Goldilocks" bars, with a 1 1/4" side profile are visually, so close to 1 1/2" bars, they appear to create the same presence as a heavier duty bar, but won't strangle your wallet. Our Goldilocks bars, are have a slightly raised round-over on the bar's face edge. Raised, rounded edges (as opposed to sharp, flat edges) greatly reduce the friction of stretching, allowing for a tighter, more even canvas face, while reducing the stress placed on the canvas and the person doing the stretching.

The raised edge has two other benefits, it lifts the canvas away from contact with the wood, and allows a slight "fudge factor" for gallery wraps that have a sharp transition between the face of the canvas and its side. The 1 1/4" width of the bar certainly helps to withstand bowing from taught stretching, but consider using braces on bars over 34 inches.
