Stretcher Bar Styles

Before you shop, you might need some info about the different styles of stretcher bars. You'll also encounter some practical tips when you visit the "Details."

Medium (Standard) Duty
	These are the standard stretcher bars or strips, used by the grand majority of artists and framers. 3/4" deep x 1 5/8" wide
Light Duty
	Here's a very economical stretcher bar that fills the need to stretch a smaller canvass without stretching your budget. 5/8" deep x 1 3/16" wide
Medium/Heavy Duty
	These SBW bars are the compromise we've all been searching for. Like Goldilocks, these may be just right for you, too! 1 3/16" deep x 1 3/16" wide
Heavy Duty
	These are the "big bully" bars to go to when you have a large canvas that requires an exceptional foundation. 1 1/2 deep" x 2" wide

A word about quality:

Dimensional stability in wood describes the ability of wood to stay straight. Long bars are sectioned together using finger splines that greatly increase the bars resistance to twist, bow and otherwise cause misery. The sectioning also makes the bars stronger, so they resist bending more than one piece construction. The concept is similar to why plywood is so strong.

We have been asked several times if the bars are clear of knots. No, some have small knots. SBW'S pricing is extremely low, and to assure a knot-free bar would raise prices significantly! That having been said, you'll find that, for the price, the value is exceptional.
